INSIGHT QUESTIONS
6. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.
Every since the 6th grade History has always been my favorite subject. I think the thing part of history that had hooked me was the Egyptians and learning the Egyptian culture. I was just so fascinated by their culture and how certain things that they did worked. The main thing about them that caught my attention was the fact that I thought pyramids were some of the coolest things ever invented and they were basically big grave sites for the pharaohs and their families. That is not the only thing about history that I like. Throughout the years I learned about way more events in history. In my opinion the best or most interesting topics are the Holocaust, Slavery, The Trail of Tears, and the Jamestown Colonies. I think the part of history that has had the biggest impact on me, which i'm pretty sure it is the same for a lot of people is Slavery. The main reason is just because the fact that it was so cruel. The part I hate the ,most about it is the fact that they went to their country and took them from their home and took them on a big boat where many of them died on the way here because of the cruel conditions. The last part was the fact that They were selling real live human beings. After Slavery African Americans still had to fight for years just to get equal rights and today it still is not equal. This has changed me as a person and made me thankful and grateful for the lifestyle that I have and it also made me appreciative of the people who have came before me and helped fix some of the problems in America.
8. What is one thing you think sets you apart from other candidates applying to the University of California
There are a lot of things that a lot of students have in common but I also feel like there are some things and characteristics that I offer that not every student does. One of those things is my personality. I am a pretty nice person and even at times when I am mad or do not feel like speaking at all I will still seem like I am in a good mood and will hold a conversation. The main thing that stands out about my personality is the fact that I am a goofball and I am a pretty funny guy, I make people laugh, and also some of the things that I do end up causing people to laugh at me. At the end of the day even though I could have been goofing off and talking during my class, I always end up getting my work done. Teachers have asked me how do I still get my work done because to them it looks like I don’t do anything but I multi-task. Another thing that sets me apart from others is even though It is not a good thing I am very good at producing quality work even when I have procrastinated and people usually can not tell.
3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
I would say that my greatest skill or talent would be my ability to get to know people and work well with them no matter what it is. The reason I say this is because, in the past when I have been put into random groups, It has always been pretty easy for me to work with whoever and I think it could be because I am just a easy going, cool person but I also take pride in my work and that helps me get whatever I am doing done. This skill also helps me when I am in a group with someone who does not contribute or carry their weight because, it does not even bother me and I just do more of the work and I do not let it frustrate me. I have demonstrated this ability in multiple projects that I have done throughout my highschool career.
5. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
I remember in freshman year there was this problem that we had to do in math. It wasn’t a regular math problem and it was a long 10 step problem and knew how to do it but I always messed up on at least one of the steps and that would mess up my entire problem. A couple days later we had a test on the problem and I ended up failing it because I miscalculated one part which messed up everything. So then the teacher paired the people that did good with the people that did not do so well and it was called study partners. I ended up getting paired with one of my bestfriends and I started to do the practice ones with him and I did good on all of them, and at the end of the study groups there were retakes for the people that messed up. When we re-took the test I had remembered all of the steps and I had aced the test and it made me happy because that test had a significant impact on our grades and it helped me alot.
